I watched a DVD titled "Deep Water" last night. Until this morning, I am still not sure of what I should comment on the flick, whether it is bad or it's really bad. You see, the movie is about the stupidity of married couple divers and the incompetence of the scuba diving tour guide. I was really pissed off by the couple's unforgivable unawareness of their diving limitations and I am totally mortified by the inefficiency and lack of security measures of the scuba diving activity of that resort. The only sensible part of the film was when the incompetent divers died.
Although many divers claim that scuba diving really is not risky sport, there are indeed dangers involved in the scuba diving sport. Remember that diving is more dangerous than any other sport, such as baseball or hockey, but it is less risky compared to mountain climbing or street luging. If your scuba diving tools are user-friendly and very reliable, the risk of having any diving problems decreases. Also, if you are a responsible diver and you apply proper diving attitude in your diving activities, then you are less prone to experience scuba diving problems.
Barotrauma and non-barotrauma are two of the most common dangerous instances that may happen while scuba diving. Barotrauma risks include the alternobaric vertigo, wherein disorientation or dizziness occurs due to unstable pressures in a diver's inner ear. Such problem usually occurs to hard-headed divers who insist on scuba diving even if they have colds. On the other hand, an example of non-Barotrauma is the nitrogen narcosis or the "rapture of the deep." Such problem arises due to the toxic risk of high nitrogen pressure on a diver's nerve conduction.

We have cloned sheep, sent people to the moon, and even came up with the idea of "Matrix", but what we don't have yet is an actual cure for cancer, corruption, psychopaths, and damn diabetes! What we have now are wellness cures here and there, or even life-prolonging treatments, but not quite the actual cures for these damn diseases. Diabetes is a disease that is often shunned by the majority, but it is an actual problem which often ruins the lives of actual people, you know. Recent studies have also shown that diabetic scuba divers have high risk levels of drowning while submerged underwater.
Friday, April 27. 2007
In this modern digital age, we usually push the limits set forth by our physical bodies. We skydive, send men to the moon or anywhere possible, and even some people would eat shit for money! But when it comes to scuba diving, a beginner scuba diver who has been properly trained on the sport must not exceed the limits set forth by official scuba diving safety measures. This is because doing so would cause not only death, but a lot of water in your damn lungs! With this, amateur scuba divers should always keep in mind that going beyond 20 to 18 feet depths are too damn deep for them!
Thursday, April 26. 2007
With this, a beginner scuba diver must always follow proper diving depths when it comes to his scuba diving ventures. This would prevent any problems that could be caused by not following this rule, such as possible drowning, panic, etc. It would also be good to always have another person present in a scuba diving venture. This would provide the amateur scuba diver a means for calling out help, just in case something goes totally wrong. But it would be best for the beginner scuba diver, or any scuba diver, to regularly check his equipment he would be using on a scuba diving trip.
Wednesday, April 25. 2007
In due time, an amateur scuba diver would gain the necessary experience from a lot of his diving trips. Plus, the proper scuba diving training programs provided by various groups and institutions would definitely come in handy. This would allow the scuba diver to gain intermediary to advanced scuba diving skills. Thus, with the proper training and the proper equipment, a good scuba diver could go to depths deeper than just 18 feet. Now this would be the fun part of a scuba diving trip, wouldn't it? I guess it would be something to look forward to for those amateur divers out there.

Of all the diabetic scuba divers that risk drowning, those with diabetes mellitis are the ones that have the highest risks of drowning while submerged underwater. This is because these people are insulin-dependent, and there are high probabilities of hypoglycemic attacks underwater. This would evidently result in drowning. Diabetics would also endanger the lives of their scuba diving mates since scuba diving ventures are usually the entire diving group's responsibility. With this, the government health department and private health institutions, are avoiding any unnecessary deaths by carefully informing each diver to have frequent check-ups before going for a dive.
Monday, April 23. 2007
But, most scuba diving organizations are devising ways and means so as not to restrict these people from their scuba diving passion. One thing that was suggested were frequent check-ups a week or so before an actual scuba diving trip. Other means that were reported by such groups are to observe controlled conditions, such as the diving destinations, precautionary measures to be taken here and there, and so on. There are also procedures that should be taken before, during, or right after diving, that should minimize the risks involved in scuba diving ventures of diabetic persons.

As for all other hobbies, diving is among the most stressing to the cardiovascular system. This is why most doctors think scuba divers should always make it a point to practice diving with a good heart. That is, to maintain levels of actual blood pressure at all times while diving or otherwise. A scuba diver actually needs to have a good running cardiovascular system at all times, even before or while diving. You see, isn't scuba diving a sport which makes actual use of a person's breathing mechanism? Plus, doesn't a person's heart dictate the way he efficiently makes use of his lungs?
Saturday, April 21. 2007
Thus, doctors urge scuba divers with heart problems to first do a raincheck whether the medication for their heart could actually affect their diving or not. This is because there are certain effects of the medication on diving that could ultimately be disastrous. Even the modern information age sometimes comes short-handed in giving out the necessary information to these divers! Thus, frequent check-ups before or after your scuba diving ventures would be the most logical thing to do.

There are many cases in which a scuba diver dies due to hypertension in the middle of a diving venture. In most actual cases, these poor divers were found to have suffered from acute pulmonary edema while smack in the middle of a dive. This is because hypertension and death are two aspects that are actually linked when it comes to diving. You see, acute pulmonary edema actually results in the death of the poor divers due to actual congestion of their lungs with fluid. With this, I think you should always undergo frequent check-ups on your blood pressure and your cardiovascular system before going out for that well-deserved scuba diving holiday.

Over the years, people have died just because they wanted to save a couple of bucks time and again. Just talk about sheer stupidity! I know of a man who wanted to save a few hundred bucks on his medication that he ended up buying fake drugs. He died with an expensive bottle of hard Scotch in his hands, which goes to show that oftentimes, the best things in life has its price! I also have the same experience with internet connections. I acquired a cheap and fast internet service, which also provided me with cheap equipment, and I ended up with a non-functioning computer! I just thank the heavens I'm not as stupid as others who take their cheapskate attitude to the more important things in life!
Anyway, if you plan on getting a well-deserved break, perhaps the first thing on your mind would be a long scuba diving holiday. Since you're a newbie, you think you could save some cash on the equipment so as to spend more in your drinking binges well within your damn vacation. Well, in doing so, what you don't know is that your damn vacation could turn into a damned holiday smack right at hell!
That's right. You see, the equipment used for scuba diving should be as safe and convenient as possible. If the quality of such equipment goes up as its price increases, then pay up, my man! Wouldn't it be more of a bummer to spend the cash you save on hospital bills, more so on a prime lot at the nearest cemetery? This is because cheap equipment uses cheap materials for the construction and production of the equipment. The materials of the equipment used for scuba diving usually are high-priced because of its durability and reliability. It would be best if you check on the warranties and guarantees each scuba gear has. This is to provide you with enough peace of mind to relax and not be preoccupied with all those damn woes and troubles that come with cheap scuba equipment!

The thrill of scuba diving is equaled with the numerous dangers behind each diving activity. This is why I initially wrote an article about nitrogen narcosis that often occurs during deep water diving. This time, allow me to discuss about decompression sickness.
The above mentioned syndrome happens when nitrogen bubbles form in the bodily tissues and the bloodstream. This is the result of a sudden change in pressure between deep water areas and their surfaces. I already experienced a mild decompression incident when I dived the Red Sea. Probably because of excitement, I swam as fast as I could towards the shore. But in the midst of my swim, I felt a bit dizzy so I stopped for a while and allowed the pressure to stabilize. Only then did I learn that such incidents occur unexpectedly and if a scuba diver is unaware of it, he might lose his consciousness and worse, die while the nitrogen suffocates him.
Decompression sickness shares the same symptoms with nitrogen narcosis. There's no specific medication for decompression syndrome, only prevention. But here's a helpful tip to novice divers: do some swimming breathing exercises while increasing the depth of your diving. This way, you are able to assess your capability in handling shifting water pressure.

Scuba diving can be fatal especially if we go beyond our limits. Sometimes, we fail to control ourselves and we plunge deeper on to the ocean. Yes, a panoramic view of the sea world awaits us down there, but it is also risky to discover that wonderland. What I really wanted to tell my fellow divers is that we are highly susceptible to nitrogen narcosis. This unlikely incident occurs when a divers breathe compressed air.
The manifestations of the said condition are stupor, loss of equilibrium, impaired reasoning, delayed reaction, and loss of dexterity. These lead to unconsciousness or 'shock effect'. No wonder, some divers died because of this. However, I think this only happens when we do not follow rules. I could still remember my instructor talked about this case so in my assessment, this incident is avoidable.
Precautionary actions must be done prior to diving. According to experts, divers must be honest enough to admit if they have moderate alcohol intake because if not, the circulation system will not get along with the pressure underwater. Also, we need to keep track of our diving. We must not exceed 100 feet or else, something will definitely go wrong. Fortunately, I have a delta diving computer that analyzes oxygen and records the coordinates.

Diving in a fine warm weather is just perfect. I mean, what else could you even wish for. You're diving underwater, the weather's perfect, so what can go wrong? Well, if your fine warm weather turns into a hot weather, that's whats up. When diving in a hot weather, you should not think of it as just some ordinary sun bathing ritual. You are going to be underwater for a long time, you better not exhaust yourself by bathing under the sun too much.
When I went scuba diving, I did not bring any sun protection with me. I thought that I did not need it since I was about to submerge myself underwater. Well, I was wrong. When you are going on a scuba diving adventure, frying yourself up under the sun's harmful glare is expected. In short, no matter what you do, you cannot escape the sun's wrath. Kidding aside, before you dive and after you dive, you will be under the sun for a long time. It's best that you protect your self from the sun at all costs. Bring waterproof sunglasses, sunblock lotion, and light clothes to change in after you dive. The most important thing is drinking water. You should never run out of edible water.
Once you feel thirst, it's a sign that you are starting to develop heat exhaustion. The exercise that you did underwater has really used up your water supply. You need to be hydrated at all times. If you feel dizzy, weak, overly sweaty, and nauseated, then you're about to collapse and fall into a heat exhaustion attack. If you're going on a scuba diving trip, bring your sun protectors.

When I tried out recreational diving, I was not at all prepared for the sudden pressure of the underwater gas tank. I had difficulty breathing through my mouth. Hey, do not get me wrong. I got my diving certification. I just passed the one-day training course, though. So, I wondered how the other scuba divers do it. I had not gone through the extreme medical and physical examination that all the other professional scuba divers have gone through.
So, what exactly are the scuba diver's medical standards? All the divers should have an approved medical examination done by a professional medical examiner or physician. There are limitations and medical reports that a scuba diver needs to have from the examiners as well.
The doctor, physician, or professional examiner should preferably be a marine physician and an underwater-trained examiner. Of course, it is very vital that the applying scuba diver be free of any serious disease. When you have a chronic disease, like the most common asthma attacks, you shall be limited to certain underwater activities, but you are not to be allowed to go beyond a certain point of depth. Lastly, there's always the practical diving test to know if the applying scuba diver can really be efficient underwater. So, if you're an interested applicant and you want to participate in professional scuba diving, get your medical examination first.

I went on this scuba with my family. My uncle is already a certified scuba diver, so, we knew a lot about scuba diving. We were with this couple who are on their first scuba diving trip. I think that it was even their adventurous honeymoon trip. Anyway, we dove together and it went great, except for the fact that they had a tiny bit of accident when we were about to board the boat. The newly-wed guy actually bumped his head on a slowly approaching boat.
An essential scuba diving tip is to always watch out for incoming boats. It may sound a tad bit funny, but, bumping into boats really happens to several scuba divers. Before a scuba diver surfaces to the water, the diver must always look in all directions for incoming boats. It is very easy to know if a boat is coming near, even underwater.
The engine of the boat would certainly be noticeable, even from afar. When a scuba diver must resurface from underwater, the diver should not directly go to the boat from underwater. It's always best to surface directly in a straight and upward notion. The diver can then go to the boat when the diver is already on the water's surface. That way, the diver's surfacing would be entirely safe from moving boats.

Scuba diving, no doubt, is among the most exciting sports adventures. What experience could be better other than viewing the hidden beauty and treasures of the sea that only a few fortunate people have the chance to see? Needless to say, scuba diving is not an easy sport.
In fact, not all people who desire to be a diver are able to qualify for scuba diving. The sport can be dangerous to both your health and life. Here is a list of safety tips you have to know about scuba diving.
First, take an examination particularly a medical test in order to know whether you are physically and mentally fit for the task. Second, take scuba diving courses that will teach you all the techniques you need to know for safe diving. Third, choose only the diving sites that are safe and that match your qualifications. Fourth, never dive alone. Always take a companion with you. Fifth, follow the diving standards. Sixth, make sure that your equipments are complete and are functioning well. Seventh, inquire about the condition of the local weather before going for a scuba diving trip.

Learning how to scuba dive is perhaps your only passport to the underwater world. Scuba diving is one great water sport that one can get engaged in and it's definitely not for the faint-hearted.
As a beginner, there are a lot of things that you have to keep in mind before plunging into the water. Here are a few diving safety tips that a beginner has to remember every time he is going out for a dive.
In preparing for the dive, you must arrive at the dive boat earlier in time to prepare your diving gear. This is important because you spare yourself from losing your gear or breaking them even before the actual dive. Keep you diving gears in proper place. As much as possible, put your loose diving equipment in a bag to keep them protected.
If you are going to stay out in the sun for quite some time, don't forget to apply sunblock, these will protect your skin from getting burned. It is likewise important to drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated.
During the actual dive, ask your divemaster about your dive plan in order to assure a safe dive entry. Don't hit the water without the notice of your divemaster, because you might get trap underwater.
It's also important before you surface from a dive to look and listen for boats which may approach at your direction. It is also important to approach your boat from yards away while giving notice to your divemaster.

Diving has eventually become a popular water sport. This is so because diving is not just entertaining, but it also helps us maintain a strong body if we maintain a healthy balanced diet. That is why more and more people around the globe have resorted to this sort of sport for both reasons.
However, diving is not that all simple. It demands not only your swimming skills, but all other relevant factors needed in order to achieve both goals. Scuba diving in particular is far more complicated than the ordinary diving activity, for it entails responsibility because you are going to explore the aquatic world.
If you are not a professional scuba diver, get the service of professional divers who will inform and teach you about the basics and do's and don’ts of scuba diving. Before you embark to dive, be sure you are well-trained and properly geared up with scuba diving apparatuses. Know what to do when you come across some sea creatures. At times, some of them may harm you, so be very wary. Keep in mind also the various applicable water and aquatic laws that help protect and preserve sea creatures and their habitat.

Scuba diving has its several perks. It can calm one's mind. Also, nothing can compare to the experience of swimming side by side with a school of fish. People will surely get a kick out of scuba diving. However, it is very important to take extra precautions when engaging in this sport. A lot of misfortunes may happen under the sea. Plus, it will be very hard to get help immediately if something awry does happen while on a scuba diving escapade.
Now, what are some ways so that scuba divers can lessen their risks of accidents?
First, one should be confident about his/her decision to scuba dive. Otherwise, attempts to go scuba diving should be rescheduled until such time that the divers are already comfortable. Unease over the experience may just hinder the person from enjoying the dive. It may even cause the person to panic in case something does go wrong.
Second, one should be knowledgeable about the given parameters of a diving depth that he/she is allowed. Going beyond these parameters can prove fatal to the divers. Furthermore, the buddy system must always be observed. Diving alone is definitely something that divers should never do. One can just imagine the horrors that may follow if a person dives alone.
Third, the dive should always be planned. Afterwards, divers should follow what they planned for the diving experience. There is a reason for planning the scuba dive. The reason is for safety purposes. Safety also means that alcohol should not be taken if a person plans to dive. Alcohol disrupts a person's body systems. It may be a cause for a person to drown while he/she is scuba diving.

Divers who seek a different kind of underwater adventure must be able to conquer their fear and face a creature that has long been a master of the waters -- the shark. There are different types of shark that a diver can swim with, and not all of them are dangerous.
However, people who are not professionals or have not been exposed to the waters where sharks prowl are usually required to be set in a cage for easier loading and retrieval. Most shark diving packages offer this to also ensure that the habitats of the sharks are not disturbed.

Before yo go off to the sea and take a plunge, make sure you know what you're doing. Man is a terrestrial animal, when entering the water, even if your the world's best swimmer, you are taken out of your natural environment.
Do not rush in, you will only put your life in danger. Take the time to learn the basics of scuba-diving from the professionals. There are few other skills you can learn such as: deep diving, underwater photography, and wreck diving. Find a certifying agency, and be on your way to a safe and fun time under the water.

Unlike recreational sea diving, cave diving requires more caution. This is because the diver delves into deeper and confined areas underwater; there's a lot more to it than water and reefs. When cave diving, it's a number one rule that the diver uses at least three sources of light. It's not a very pleasant thing when a diver's light goes off in the middle of darkness, inside a cave.
What happens when you lose your light source, it goes pitch black and you're 180 feet underwater? You guessed it, you're lost. Light is very essential in cave diving. It will help you track everything from guide tracks inside the cave, to checking your oxygen limit, to time management. The light is your guide so make sure to bring three, whichever light gear is most practical for you.

Exploring the marine world can be fascinating, but if you never take the proper precautions seriously, the underwater adventure may just be as dangerous. Remember the saying that there is safety in numbers?
As with any other water activity, find yourself a buddy you can go with. It is also easier to conquer the fear of the unknown when you know what you're dealing with in the first place so make sure that you listen to the instructions and rules before diving. Always check the equipment to ensure that the materials fit and are working properly. Lastly, do not forget to slather on some waterproof sunscreen to protect the skin.

Sure, scuba diving may sound like a lot of fun, with the right gear and the right place, you're good to go. But, it takes more than what meets the eye, to be safe, you have got to know the basics while under water. First, don't dive into depth that you're not yet accustomed to, take the depth slowly, dive within your limits. Next is, while you're going up, or ascending, do not hold your breath, you should get used to breathing normally underwater, most especially while ascending. Familiarize yourself with the environment and the fishes. Lastly, never panic underwater, this may cause you serious suffocation, so, be calm if you get confused or afraid.
